2/7/2024 0 Comments Grateful dead 77 font![]() With so many excellent shows available in high quality from this tour, such a "fair" sounding sbd would have to boast unmissable versions of songs to recommend a download. Kudos to Tim Symons for working on this show, but I fear he may have clipped the high end too much in an effort to reduce tape hiss. The pitch adjustment note supports this suspicion. My guess is that this recording has endured several analog generations, though it does not suffer tape waver. To start with, the question mark in the source is well-deserved, as the sound is that of a fairly muffled soundboard, with the highs pretty clipped. *this board ain't as crispy as springfield for sure but those of us who cut our teeth on nth generation non-fob cassettes won't complain. a nice show, just what the doctor ordered at this point. No party for me tonight.shut eye is necessary. and wharf rat #1 of the tour is sweet indeed. the terrapin is nice and the playin' goes to some very weird places pre-drumz. the samson is one of the best i've heard - jerry and keith are ripping it up. the outro is very interesting and unique in both songs tonight, and jerry's really feeling it in fire. this scarlet is the best one of the three, save a tad too much donna in transition. This new scarlet>fire combo is getting its legs now. TLEO is very nice, imo, and i like MNS in the closing spot - it seemed lost mid-2nd set at the last show. The first set was pretty subdued, but with eight nights coming up, i expected a slow burn. ![]() All sources are missing an early ½min of TOO.After thumbing down from western mass, i spent a few days in the city resting up before heading over to jersey. The latter also has the missing sections patched (except a couple minutes of Drums). SOURCES: The miller_79012 is a little cleaner and better balanced than the murphy_5596, but the highs are muffled compared to the ladner_4618, which also has better presence. The Music Never Stopped - typically hot '77 MNSĮstimated Prophet - take this trip into the famous Eyes and check Bobby's playingĮyes of the World - justifiably noted as (arguably) '77's best The 15min Stella is one of the two longest, but that's because it's verryyy slo1st Set: B. The Other One ain't bad (though not 5/9 or 5/21), but the rest is below average for '77. It's better with each play-through, seemingly effortless. Eyes is the best of the tour - arguably better than 5/7, 5/15, 5/22 & 5/26 and that's tough company. Listen to Bobby behind Jer's end jam on Estimated. Though much is said about the Eyes, it's the Estimated into Eyes that gives context. Not the solid set you get from most of the tour, but with a crazy peak in the middle. Nobody agrees on the beat for Supplication but they leave 'em happy with a typically strong Music Never Stopped. Mexicali is perfunctory but the next few are strong, with Friend of the Devil one of the best from the tour (if not 5/7 or 5/22). Cassidy is nice and Jack-A-Roe is the 4th one and really falling into place (see 5/21 & 5/26 for the heights it would soon climb). One of two shows with a Deal opener (though there are three with a second set Deal opener). ![]() There were some stage monitor problems and RF bleed can be heard between songs. This is one of a few remaining shows from May '77 not officially released one for the deep consumers who've likely heard at least a few others from the tour.įirst Set. ![]() The 1st set is yr average '77 Dead, and the second set a bit below average for '77, but there are big highlights. It's known for the rocket Eyes, but suffers being slotted between two famous shows and though it may be the sloppiest of the tour, it's still relatively solid. This date is objectively in the bottom five for the tour - yet it's still a fine show. May '77 is a tough month for a show to stand out.
